FAQ

How the list is put together, what a score means, and how this site is funded.

What is this site?

A ranked shortlist in one category, with a page for each entry explaining what it is, what it costs and who it is for. Every entry is measured against the same criteria, and the reasoning is published rather than implied.

How are entries chosen?

By whether they are genuinely usable by the reader we are writing for, and by our commercial relationships: commission can influence which games we list and in what order.

How is a score decided?

Against the same criteria for every entry: what the first experience is like, what it costs once somebody is committed, and how well it works for an ordinary person on ordinary equipment. Where we have first-hand experience we use it; where we do not, the assessment rests on published information and other public sources.

Is the ranking paid for?

Partly. Commission can influence which games we list and in what order. It never buys a score or a review, and what it pays for is the work behind the pages.

Do you accept payment for a review?

No, and no advertiser sees a review before it is published or can require a change to one. Offers to buy a score are declined.

Is everything listed here free to start?

Where it is, the entry says so, and where a cost applies, the entry says what it is and when it arrives. The moment at which something stops being free is the single most useful fact about it, so it is never buried.

Are the prices here always current?

They are correct as at the date on the page. Prices, offers and availability are set by the provider and can change at any time, so check their own site before paying for anything.

How often is the list updated?

Lists are reviewed monthly, and sooner when something material changes, such as a price or a condition that was the reason an entry was there.

Why is something I use not listed?

Usually because it fails one of the criteria, or because it has not been assessed yet. A list here is short on purpose, and being absent from it is not a verdict.

Is any of this advice?

No. Scores and reviews are editorial opinion, not certification, and not financial, legal or professional advice. What you choose to sign up for is your own decision.

What data do you collect about me?

No account, no registration and no form: what is processed is technical request data and a random identifier for an outbound click. It is set out in full in the privacy policy.

Something here is wrong. Who do I tell?

Write to . Corrections are made and stated rather than quietly applied.

Can I reuse this content?

Quote a line or two with a link, by all means. Copying pages wholesale, or presenting this material as your own, is not permitted.
